BAS Home - What's New - November Meeting
| Review of November Presentation by Mimi Dietrich and Sally Schneider |

November 17, 2004, BAS members were honored to hear Mimi Dietrich and Sally Schneider tell of their efforts to produce Growing Up With Quilts 15 Projects for Babies and Teens and show all of the quilts featured in the book. From Maryland -- Mimi -- to New Mexico -- Sally -- something their editors thought that they could not accomplish and remain friends, the two put together a wonderful book. They introduced themselves as Granny Sally and Grammy Mimi, mothers of grown sons with grandchildren. For years they have had dreams of making girly quilts for granddaughters. Since Sally does patchwork and Mimi does appliqué, the quilts in the book use both techniques and are for boys and girls. All the quilts in the book were presented; this is the only time they will be shown together as some are presents to be mailed soon. Linda Bobo Growing Up With Quilts | |

Pictures from the Presentation:
Mimi Dietrich's favorite quilt in the book, "May Angels Watch Over You," shows the style of Sun Bonnet Sue. Each angel represents a different month of the year. The delightful back of the quilt is a fabric from Mimi's collection of angel fabric, one of many personal fabric collections.
Sally Schneider's inspiration for "Summer Camp" was her own sons' adventures. Note the log cabin and flying geese blocks.
"Now I Know My ABC's" by Sally Schneider of Albuque, NM, 2003
Mimi with "Star Light, Star Bright"
"The Secret Garden" has pinwheel blocks as flowers waving in the breeze with stems of applique, definitely a quilt for a girl.
"Treasure Baskets" has 3-D baskets in which children can hide notes or toys.
"Fantasy Fish" by Mimi Dietrich, Baltimore, MD, 2003.
